The Trumpet
Harmonieorkest De Bazuin consists of a project orchestra and a concert orchestra of some 50 members, who perform regularly throughout the year in Zwolle and the surrounding area. The Hanseatic Year comes as a fine occasion to pay a musical ode to the city and its patron saint, Saint Michael.
The Saint and the City
Composer Jacob de Haan wrote the piece "The Saint and the City" in 2003 at the request of De Bazuin, and he based it on a city myth. According to this story, a long time ago Zwolle was threatened by a dragon, until archangel Saint Michael defeated the dragon. Since then, Michael is considered the patron saint of the city of Zwolle.
The piece of music expresses this heroic story. Extra special is that Jacob de Haan is also present at one of De Bazuin's rehearsals.
The performance of The Bazuin begins promptly at 11:50 a.m.. Audiences are welcome to listen to it from downstairs.
