They also perform Benjamin Britten's famous A Ceremony of Carols: glowing Christmas close harmony.
Previously, Lavinia Meijer had worldwide success with her album The Glass Effect, in which she arranged Philip Glass' minimal music for harp. Now she is creating an arrangement for female voices and harp of The Little Match Girl Passion, especially for Wishful Singing, at the recommendation of David Lang. This composition was previously awarded the Pulitzer Prize.
A Ceremony of Carols is one of the most versatile compositions within the existing Christmas repertoire. Britten bought a book of poetry in Halifax during his crossing to America during World War II. The lyrics from this book inspired Britten to write A Ceremony of Carols.
Wishful Singing consists of five classically trained singers. With great passion and expression, they sing a wide range of musical styles, ranging from works from the Renaissance and Baroque to folk music and close harmony.
