Stalparts Italian journey: Palestrina, Lassus, Monteverdi

Johannes Stalpart van der Wiele from The Hague would never shake off the overwhelming impressions of his Italy trip. Back in the Netherlands, he cherished his most treasured souvenir: six collections of madrigals with works by Palestrina, Lassus and Monteverdi, among others. Posthumously, his own, Dutch-language versions of these polyphonic gems appear. With five voices and four instruments, Camerata Trajectina rescues this sensational Baroque find from oblivion.

Camerata Trajectina is the champion of Dutch music from the Middle Ages to the Golden Age, with projects that combine intensive scholarly research and spontaneous performance. Composers such as Sweelinck, Schuyt, Van Eyck and Schenk are as inspiring to the ensemble as propaganda songs by the Geuzen, sailor songs or minstrelsy from the Gruuthuse manuscript. Camerata Trajectina performed numerous times in the Festival and Season of Early Music.
